Encaustic Painting Encaustic painting started in Egypt around 100-300 AD. Beeswax and damar resin are heated together and applied to the surface. Layers of this medium are progressively added. Drawings and other materials may also be added within the layers for additional effect. The inclusion of damar resin in the beeswax makes the finished product very durable, curing the wax and hardening it.
